This study mainly examines the education adjustment and adaptation of ESL students studying overseas, taking 55 ESL students studying in a university in UK as the research objects.
Research questions of this study include: (1) What are the most common challenges that students found in their postgraduate studies? (2) Do the challenges change over time and how do students overcome it? (3) Do they have received the adequate supports? (4) What additional supports would be helpful for them?
Literature study is employed to research the background of ESL students studying in overseas host countries and make a theoretical preparation. Questionnaire survey and individual interviews are conducted to investigation the specific challenges and problems encountered by ESL students and how they make efforts to solve these challenges and problems.
Through the results this study draws some conclusions: (1) Most ESL students going abroad for further study are confident about their learning ability and academic achievements. (2) Although the investigated ESL students make positive assessments to their academic progress, they also thinks they have problems and challenges to adapt the new educations system to some extent. (3) This investigation needs to be improved in some aspects such as research methods and the selection and sampling of respondents.
本研究主要探討了教育的調整和ESL學生留學海外的適應,同時55 ESL學生在英國一所大學為研究對象學習。
本研究的研究問題包括: ( 1 )什么是在修讀研究生課程的學生找到最常見的挑戰是什么? ( 2 )不要挑戰隨著時間而改變,以及如何做學生克服呢? ( 3 )他們是否已經收到了足夠的支持? ( 4 )什么額外的支持將是對他們有幫助嗎?
文學研究中被用來研究ESL學生在海外東道國留學的背景,并作出理論準備。問卷調查和個別訪談進行調查由ESL學生遇到的具體挑戰和問題,以及他們如何努力解決這些挑戰和問題。
通過對結果本研究得出了一些結論: ( 1 )大多數ESL學生出國深造有信心對自己的學習能力和學習成績。 ( 2 )盡管被調查的ESL學生學業進步做出了積極的評價,他們也認為他們的問題和挑戰,以新的教育體制適應在一定程度上。 ( 3 )本次調查需要在某些方面,如研究方法和受訪者的選擇和采樣有待提高。
